"The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd.  But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body.
The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person."
Ecclesiastes 12:11-13

As a career bookseller I have seen my share of books on the subject of God come - and go.  I gravitate towards classic Christian writings and biographies of Christian fore-fathers who have impacted His Story over the centuries.

For years I have helped my bookstore customers in choosing the Bible translation and edition that is right for them.  I've created a separate Sheep's Pen page (see BIBLE SHOP tab above) with helpful tips and background information on Bible publishing to assist my readers, here.

On this page, however, I will list other book recommendations for reading and reference that have touched my life and drawn me closer to the Lord - building my faith and inspiring my journey.

Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of the English Language

Words have meaning.  To better grasp the meaning of our American English language, Noah Webster - a contemporary of our Founding Father's era, spent over twenty years of his life meticulously researching each word in reference to how it was used historically - and most notably - Biblically.  This was the very first dictionary to be adopted broadly across America - in public education - in addition to Webster's famous "blue-back speller" - our first American school textbook.  Defining words the way the framers of our U.S. Constitution understood them to be used - and the decades of scholars who came after them building our nation, with sample scripture references to help drive the point home, this dictionary is invaluable for in-depth word studies to aid Biblical study.  Click on this link - ONLINE 1828 - to access the 1828 online for user friendly reference definitions and helps.  Be sure to not miss the important definition of terms that were the standard of understanding in America such as:  education, marriage, sin, religion, salvation, and more!
